The Game

MUD, ROCK and the OCCASIONAL PIECE of SHIT is a guessing game. But it’s also a radio program. During the first episode, our esteemable host flipped to a random page in Merriam-Webster and dropped his finger on a random word (making sure not to pick a proper, upper-case person, place or thing). Your objective is to find that word through hints in the radio program and asking questions. The game will continue over every episode until someone finds the word. There will be a prize for the correct guess!

What’s with the title, then? What do those three things have to do with the game? Think of them as the most general way of categorizing everything. A similar game with categories is “Animal, Vegetable, Mineral.” But while those are ways of categorizing all concrete things, all possible answers, this game is about categorizing the questions; to play this game you must organize your thinking.

Two sources of information will help you toward the answer: the questions you ask, and the songs played on the radio show. They both relate to the title of the show in different ways, so you should click on their specific pages linked at the bottom of this page.

Special thanks to Doobie or Balint, or whoever invented this game back when we were nerds on a bus.

About

This is a radio show and interactive game hosted by Mike Noble that currently airs Wednesdays at 5pm EDT on WHFR. On the first show, a random word was picked from the dictionary, and it is the listener’s duty to guess it. Songs are hints, and you can use this site to ask yes-no questions. Check out the pages linked to the right for more information. There will be a prize for the correct guess!
